DAF receives follow-up order from Belgian army

13 tractor-trailer combinations for heavy-duty use

DAF Trucks has received an additional order from the Belgian army for 13 more heavy-duty tractor-trailer combinations. This order follows a previous contract for 888 trucks, the last of which will be delivered this year.

In 2022, the Belgian army placed an initial order with DAF consisting of 636 4x4 trucks for general transport tasks, and 243 8x8 trucks for specific applications (such as tippers, container transport, and operations requiring a crane). Later that year, an additional order was placed for nine heavy-duty tractor-trailer combinations designed for the rapid and safe recovery of vehicles in operational and conflict zones. Based on their proven reliability and unmatched off-road capabilities, the Belgian army is now ordering 13 more of these Protected Evacuation Vehicles (PEVs).

The new order also includes complete combinations, consisting of 8x8 CF Military tractors and three-axle extendable low-loaders from Broshuis. The tractors are equipped with the latest generation of armored cabs, offering optimal protection for occupants during the transport or evacuation of vehicles in military operations.

Unmatched off-road capabilities
For the CF Military models, DAF works closely with the renowned TATRA TRUCKS in the Czech Republic. This collaboration results in a unique chassis concept featuring a premium drivetrain and a central load-bearing tube with independent wheel suspension. This gives the CF Military exceptional off-road capabilities and outstanding driving comfort, even in the most challenging terrains.

The latest recovery vehicles for the Belgian Army are powered by the 12.9-litre PACCAR MX-13 engine delivering 340 kW/460 hp. The advanced armored cabs are supplied by TATRA ARMY VEHICLES.

“The PEV, specifically developed by DAF for the Belgian army, fully meets our operational needs,” said Lieutenant Colonel Jean-Francois Gennotte. “To better adapt the army to the current geopolitical context, it is essential to have access to additional, fully identical PEVs within a short timeframe. DAF reaffirmed our trust, thanks in part to their complete transparency.”

“We are deeply honoured to receive this third order from the Belgian army,” said Harald Seidel, President of DAF Trucks. “This once again proves that DAF – in collaboration with our partner Tatra – provides leading transport solutions, also for military applications.
